Nu är pandemilarmet i farten igen. Media har stora rubriker om hur du skyddar dig och när vaccinet kommer. För att inte tala om alla diskussioner om vem som ska betala. Den traditionella ommartorkan i media gör det värre än vanligt.
Mycket läsvärd artikel i Svenska Dagbladet igår av Inger Atterstam som tonar ner riskerna och påminner om basfakta. Eller som grannen till min gamla arbetsplats KI, Smittskyddsinstitutet säger:
”Risken för den enskilde att drabbas av svår sjukdom eller död är inte större än vid vanlig säsongsinfluensa”
I Sverige finns det nu flera hundra personer som genomgått svininfluensa och de flesta relativt lindrigt påverkade. Procentuellt är inte risken större att dö i svininfluensa än någon annan influensa. När vi är framme vid 2010 kommer säkert över miljonen svenskar ha genomgått denna virusinfektion och de allra flesta överlevt utan men.
Det som vore på sin plats är att det istället rapporteras saklig relevant information som ger kunskap och därmed lugnar människor. Vidare skulle det inte skada om man lite oftare uppmärksammade hur många som dör i HIV och malaria över världen, varje dag, timme och minut.

Sommaren brukar ju inte riktigt vara influensasäsong i Sverige. Inte i Storbrittanien heller, men där har de en massa fall just nu.
Vilken Case Fatality Ratio och Clinical Attack Rate räknar du med, när du beräknar hur många som kommer att dö i Sverige?
Om 20% av svenskarna insjuknar och CFR är 0.1% så blir det 9000000 * .2 * .001 = 1800 döda svenskar orsakade av svininfluensa AH1N1 2009.
Ett annat problem är hur stor andel av de som insjuknar som hamnar på sjukhus och hur många som behöver sjukhusvård samma vecka.
Artikeln av Atterstam är spekulativ och innehåller vad jag kan se mest löst tyckande, utan någon som helst källhänvisningar.
Det du skrev 4 juni 2009 ”We know from a recent report in the journal Science that swine flu is a new virus, never detected in human or swine before, but also that the virus from Mexico is at this point no more aggressive than viruses that have emerged from other countries.”

Hur ser du på rapporterna om att vår pandemi kommer från grisar?
